What is Salgirah?/ Qu'est ce que Salgirah?

Salgirah is one of the most important festivals/ occasions in the Ismaili Culture.

Salgirah is when HIS HIGHNESS IV / HIS HIGHNESS THE AGA KHAN whom the Ismaili's refer to as "Mowla" was born.  This is celebrated on 13th December.

Salgirah est l’un des festivals / événements les plus importants de la culture ismaélienne.

Salgirah est le moment où SON ALTESSE / SON ALTESSE L'AGA KHAN, que les Ismaéliens appellent "Mowla", est née. Ceci est célébré le 13 décembre.

Who is His Highness?

His Highness the Aga Khan is the spiritual (Holy Leader) of the Shia Ismaili Muslims. He is the divine and all knowing. We Ismaili's refer to him as "Mowla" which means our guardian, our guide, our defender and the one with the "Noor" (light) of our Lord Allah. 

Salgirah is the day we Ismaili's celebrate the birth of our Imam, His Highness Prince Aga Khan. The word "Salgirah" means birthday in our language. 
On this auspicious occasion people celebrate in many different ways.

Son Altesse l'Aga Khan est le chef spirituel des musulmans chiites ismaéliens. Il est le divin et tout connaissant. Nous "Ismaili" "Mowla" qui signifie notre gardien, notre guide, notre défenseur et celui avec le "Noor" de notre Seigneur Allah.
Salgirah est le jour où nous célébrons l'Imam d'Ismaili, Son Altesse le Prince Aga Khan. Le mot "Salgirah" signifie un anniversaire dans notre langue.

En cette occasion propice, les gens célèbrent de nombreuses façons différentes.

Clothing

On such happy ocassions such as this, all ismaili's all over the world wear colourful bright clothing. There are many colourful, fancy and cheerful clothing that are worn to Khane (place of prayer). e.g.
Dans des occasions aussi joyeuses que celle-ci, tous les ismailis du monde entier portent des vêtements colorés et lumineux. De nombreux vêtements colorés, élégants et gais sont portés à Khane (lieu de prière). par exemple.

Sharara

 This is a long blouse with a skirt.

Lehenga
 This is a short top with a long skirt and a long scarf.

Sari

 This is a long skirt and short bra top. This has a long scarf that goes around and skirt and has to be pined it to the top of the blouse.

Punjabis

 This is a medium sized top with leggings and a scarf. You can put the scarf on the side of the outfit or hanging on your neck.

Kurta

 This has a long sleeve shirt with pants and a scarf.

Sherwani

 This is a long sleeve shirt and pants with a pocket and indian shoes.

There is also a lot of dancing and music. Mostly indian music is played depending on what culture is mostly carried out in your county. Also a dance called Dandiya which is played with sticks is carried out. As well as Garba which is a dance usually done by clapping your hands to the beat in a synchronized way.

Il y a aussi beaucoup de danse et de musique. La musique indienne est principalement jouée dans de nombreux pays. Une danse appelée Dandiya jouée avec des bâtons est également exécutée. Garba est une danse qui se fait généralement en frappant vos mains de manière synchronisée.
